Position:     Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Location:    Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

 

The Department of Psychiatry at Hospital for Sick Children is inviting applications for the position of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

 

The effective date of this appointment is immediately.

 

Primary Description – Responsibilities include full clinical psychiatry practice, research, education, and administrative responsibilities as required by a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Evidence of excellence in teaching, creative professional activity or research is required. The preferred candidate will have extensive experience in the evidence-based clinical care of various child and youth mental health conditions (e.g., ADHD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, medical psychiatry and eating disorders).

 

 

Additional Description

The successful candidate will provide effective and collaborative leadership at the hospital, and eventually at the provincial, national and international levels. The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

 

Compensation will commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Life, Group Insurance, and Pension.

The Department of Psychiatry is comprised of approximately 17 full-time psychiatrists and other inter-professional clinicians providing care to children and youth with a wide range of mental health challenges, especially to those with medical comorbidities.

Position:     Inpatient Child Psychiatrist

Location:    Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, Canada

 

General Summary This prominent children's hospital in Ontario is seeking a junior or mid-career level child psychiatrist to join their multidisciplinary Acute Care Inpatient Mental Health Unit, which specializes in the acute inpatient care of children and adolescents with mental health problems.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities The unit has 19 beds and this full-time position is shared with two other full-time psychiatrists. The Inpatient Unit multi-disciplinary team comprises nursing staff, child and youth care workers, two psychologists, three social workers, an occupational therapist, and a .5 FTE Family Medicine physician. The work involves psychiatric assessments and brief treatment of children and youth with a variety of psychiatric disorders. The position of Medical Director of the inpatient unit may be available for qualified applicants.

 

Required Skills and Abilities The successful candidate will have had training and/or experience in child and adolescent psychiatry, with Royal College certification or an equivalent. Inpatient experience as an attending physician is preferred. Some administrative experience will be required for the Medical Director position.

 

Minimum Level of Preparation and Training MD from an accredited institution; Royal College Certification in Psychiatry or equivalent; child psychiatry experience, training, or certification from the Royal College or equivalent body; must meet criteria for an academic appointment in Psychiatry at the local University's Faculty of Medicine. Bilingualism (English/French) is desirable.

 

Remuneration; Vacation/Conference Time $260,000-$350,000/year (remuneration varies depending on university rank, academic and clinical productivity); 6 weeks paid vacation; 2 weeks paid conference time; financial support for conference attendance. This position carries a stipend in addition to the regular pay. A relocation allowance and a signing bonus are included.

Position:     2-3 Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists

Location:    McMaster Children's Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

 

McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, ON Canada seeks two-three outstanding child and adolescent psychiatrists with expertise in the assessment and treatment of children with ADHD, psychosis, mood and anxiety disorders.  Interest and expertise in consultation-liaison psychiatry and emergency psychiatry is a particular asset.  Experience with evidence-based assessment instruments and rating scales is needed and a commitment to multidisciplinary clinical assessment and evidence-based treatment models is also essential.

 

The candidate will work as part of an interprofessional team with a focus on treatment of complex, co-morbid, and severe mental illness in children and youth.  Our current needs include roles supporting a 22-bed inpatient unit, an emergency child and youth mental health service, consultation-liaison services, and outpatient services. The child and adolescent psychiatrist will join other child and adolescent psychiatrists and pediatric psychologists in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University, and a team of Master’s level social workers and clinical nurse specialists.  Abundant education and supervision opportunities are available with the General Psychiatry Training Program and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Subspecialty Program, the Psychology postdoctoral program, residents from other departments, and medical and physician assistant students.

 

Candidates must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario and be a Fellow of the RCPSC (or equivalent).  The position carries an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, rank commensurate with experience.

Position:     Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist 

Location:    Comox Valley, British Columbia, Canada

 

The Island Health Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to the join the Comox Valley Hospital team, which consists of two other child and adolescent psychiatrists, a psychiatric nurse counsellor and youth mental health outreach worker.

 

This position would be a predominantly outpatient practice, with coverage of adolescents who are admitted to our inpatient unit, and younger children who are admitted to the pediatric unit. The position includes consultation to GPs, paediatricians and to our local Child and Youth Mental Health team at the Ministry for Child and Family Development. The Comox Valley has a number of excellent services that support our psychiatric work with children including School District 71’s Behaviour Resource Program and Crisis Intervention Services through Comox Valley Hospital Emergency Room.

 

Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and be a Fellow of the RCPSC (or equivalent). The expectation would be to join the psychiatry call group. On call demands are generally phone-based. Opportunity exists to become involved in teaching UBC medical students and Family Practice residents.

 

Remuneration is by fee-for-service, sessional payments and MOCAP. Candidates may be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement including:  Recruitment Incentive - $10,000; Fee Premium – 6.93%; Annual Flat Fee $6,058; Rural CME - $3,000/annum in years 3 & 4 in the community, increasing to a maximum of $6,000/annum after 4 years.
