The Community Profiles include data sets used to monitor the level of Risk and Vulnerability as it relates to Early Childhood Health and Development in a particular community.

 

Social Risk Index (SRI)

 

The Social Risk Index (SRI) uses nine census variables which relate to the socio-economic risk in a neighbourhood or community. These nine indicators have been closely linked to children's acheivement in education as well as their adult health and social outcomes. Identifying exisitng and any potential risks that young children may experience or be exposed to is part of good evidence-based plannning and decision making and is optimal for excellent service delivery.In research, the level of social risk has been closely linked to children’s achievement and health outcomes.

 

The nine census variables used to assess Social Risk in a community are- 

 

 

 

 

 

Risk and Protective factors are the situations or experiences that can either assit healthy child development and well-being or have a negative impact on it. Research continues to show that children who experience multiple 'Risk Factors' at early stages in their development are at a greater risk for experiencing negative life outcomes later in life.
