"One of the questions that I get asked most often about leadership is "Are Leaders Born or Made?”  I aways answer in the same way, my favourite quote on leadership comes from John Quincy Adams,  "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”.

Which is something I wholeheartedly agree with, so leadership is about action, and actions can be learnt, they are not traits that we are born with, therefore everyone can be a leader.

We have the choice to act or not, so not only can we become leaders, but it’s also a choice that we can make ourselves.

Many people then say, but what about inspiring leaders, again I answer the same, we inspire people through our actions, maybe through achieving improbable goals, but we can also do this by helping and supporting those in need. Leadership is about what we do for others, not about what we can do for ourselves and the more we do for others the more inspiring we can be.

So if you want to be a leader start today, help those in need, support those around you and inspire people through your selfless actions, and if you do that, then according to John Quincy Adams then you’re a leader." Gordon Tredgold
