My Passion's Letter To Passionate Kids
"For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be surrounded by music. I started learning the piano when I was six, and apparently I was singing before I could actually talk – or so my Mum says – and I have been extremely lucky enough to have always worked in and around music in some way. But I didn’t choose Music, it chose me. I never had a moment when I was wondering what I wanted to do with my life, or what I wanted my career to be. But that was the easy bit! Wanting something and actually doing it, can be two different things.
I am a big believer in knowing your craft and discipline. If you want to be a vocalist, for example, then you must learn everything you possibly can about singing – not just techniques, but the history, the business, the industry - everything. Competition is fierce and you have to be the best you can be. Practice everyday. But not just because you know you should, but because you want to be the best you can be – why would you want to be just ‘ok’? We learn by trying, failing and picking ourselves up and trying and failing again and continually striving to be the best we can be. But if you love what you do, this is far easier to do than it may sound. Always believe that you can do whatever you want to do and you can be whatever you want to be. My biggest inspirations growing up have been artists who know who they are, what they want to do and work as hard as they possibly can to achieve their goals. If you want something, you need to go out there, give your all and get it. You absolutely have the power to do this – and you will have times when you think you haven’t, but you must always believe in yourself, be strong and confident. You can do this and don’t let anyone ever tell you can’t.
Start each day like it is an adventure – explore, enjoy, remember why you are doing it and just go for it!"
