About CACAP
The Canadian Academy of Child Psychiatry was founded in 1980 and in 2002 became the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CACAP) to reflect more accurately the children, youth and families served by the profession.
CACAP promotes quality care and service to the children, youth and families of Canadians within an approach that includes the biological, the psychological and the social; that works with other professional disciplines; and across many sectors of health and other related service organizations.
Mission
The Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is a national organization of child and adolescent psychiatrists and other professionals in Canada, committed to advancing the mental health of children, youth and families through promotion of excellence in care, advocacy, education, research and collaboration with other professionals.

Since its beginning in 1980, the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CACAP) is the sole professional association of psychiatrists who work to help children, youth and their families across Canada reach their optimal potential for mental and emotional well-being.

The constitution of the Canadian Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry enables the organization to carry out its purposes:

To establish and maintain an organization of child and adolescent psychiatrists in Canada for their mutual benefit

To promote the highest standards of patient care and professional practice in child and adolescent psychiatry

To promote standards for training in child and adolescent psychiatry and to further the continuing education of practicing child and adolescent psychiatrists

To promote research in child and adolescent psychiatry and related fields

To undertake an advocacy role on issues related to the mental health of children, youth and families in affiliation with other national and provincial organizations concerned with the developmental needs of children and youth

To publish journals and other literature for the dissemination of knowledge regarding psychiatric disorders of children and youth and the promotion of principles of healthy child development

To receive bequests, donations and grants of money and to raise monies by membership fees, public subscription or in any other manner that is not contrary to the laws of Canada or any of the provinces for the carrying out of the purposes or activities of the Academy.
