Note: For all classes of Membership for which specialist qualification is a requirement, the Credentials Committee shall determine the acceptability of equivalent specialist standing granted by bodies other than The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and The Quebec College of Physicians (Le College des Medicines du Quebec)

Full Member $325

The following individuals are eligible for full membership:

Every legally qualified medical practitioner who is registered as a specialist in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent, and is acceptable to the Credentials Committee
Every legally qualified medical practitioner who is registered as a specialist in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent, who has satisfactorily completed eighteen months or more of training in child and adolescent psychiatry in an approved program, has primarily practiced child and adolescent psychiatry for a minimum of two years, and is acceptable to the Credentials Committee
Every legally qualified physician who is registered as a specialist in Psychiatry by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent, has had at least one year of training in child and adolescent psychiatry in an approved program, has primarily practiced child and adolescent psychiatry for a minimum of five years and is acceptable to the Credentials Committee

Associate Member $195

The following individuals are eligible for Associate Membership:

Every legally qualified physician who is actively engaged in or affiliated with the psychiatric care of children or youth and is acceptable to the Credentials Committee

Affiliate Member $195

The following individuals are eligible for Affiliate Membership:

Any recognized clinician, such as, but not limited to clinicians in social work, and psychology, and who is acceptable to the Credentials Committee

Member-in-Training (Fees are waived)

The following individuals are eligible for Member-in-Training:

Every legally qualified medical practitioner who is registered in a training program in Psychiatry which has been accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and who is acceptable to the Credentials Committee

International Member $260

An International Member is someone who would otherwise qualify for any category of

membership except that they are not residents of Canada.

FAQ

What is the difference in privileges between each category of membership?

Associate and Affiliate Members shall be entitled to all the privileges and benefits of the Academy (see benefits of membership) except that they shall not have the right to vote and shall not hold elected office nor chair committees of the Academy

What documents are required during the application process?

Applications for membership must be supported by:

Provincial license number(s) (or equivalent for International membership)
For Full membership, ID number from your membership card from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and/or the Collège des Médecins du Québec or, for international members, the equivalent in their country of training
A brief statement of all psychiatric training including number of months of each rotation and training location for experiences in infant, child, adolescent and family psychiatry
A brief statement of present and past work since graduation
Categories of membership other than member in training will be asked to provide contact information for a reference from one full member of CACAP (see below)
Members in training will be asked to provide contact information for a reference from their Director of Training

What happens after I apply?

Upon completion of the application form, submission of your CV, and receipt of letters of reference, the National Office will forward all applications to the Credentials Committee for consideration. The Credentials Committee may communicate with University Departments of Psychiatry, accrediting bodies, and with any member of the Academy to determine whether the applicant is properly qualified and recommended to be a Member. If the application is approved by a quorum of three members of the Credentials Committee, the Secretary shall notify the applicant that the application is approved and the applicant shall become a Member upon payment of the established fee.

What do I do if I don’t know a full member of CACAP who can provide a reference?

You can make note of this on your application and someone will be in contact with you to determine how this requirement can be fulfilled.
